STRYPER Drummer Says He Is Glad 'Beavis And Butthead' Didn't Wear Their Shirt

STRYPER drummer Robert Sweet recently talked with Electricbasement.com about his new band BLISSED, as well as all things STRYPER. He admitted that he was happy MTV's popular "Beavis and Butthead" cartoon of the early '90s didn't rag on the band the way it did with WINGER. "I have to say I’m glad the writers at 'Beavis and Butthead' never had them wear a STRYPER shirt. Maybe in one way, it would have been good. On one episode, they said Jesus was cool. That was a reference to STRYPER maybe. Whatever the case, maybe STRYPER had a longevity that when we took a break, it was at the right time."

Still, he partly blames MTV for making people think STRYPER was a ballad band. "When we started off, we were much heavier than most people thought," he said. "With MTV, they didn't spotlight the heavy tunes, people thought we were just in one direction."

Sweet also doesn't rule out the possibility of a new STRYPER record, being that the Christian metal band had a reunion recently. "I'll be honest. Before I did the BLISSED record, I always hoped STRYPER would do another record. I hope for that still. They're both good with me. One complements the other. But who knows."
